Children's Program

Children's Programs

Circus activities are a great way to get kids up and moving, and to foster their creative side. We make circus accessible to all, while still maintaining its shiny allure to the young and the young at heart.

Children will jump at the possibility of doing something extraordinary! Circus is not only fun, but great exercise. It builds muscle and flexibility, along with confidence, trust, and teamwork. Children walk away from our circus classes feeling empowered and ready to tackle anything. Parents, you might even find your children ready for a bed a couple hours early after a day filled with circus!

While children are always able to sign up for any all-levels classes offered at our school, we also have specialized children's programs for kids aged 6-14. We have a One Day Circus Experience for children who want to get a taste of all we have to offer, Weekly Workshop classes for those who are ready to get down to business, and week-long Summer Camps during the warm months, complete with a full performance at the end.

Aerial Acrobatics Mini-Workshops

These five week workshops meet once weekly for an hour, and are the perfect way for a child to progress in a specific activity and see results in their training.

The aerial acrobatics mini-workshop includes static trapeze (that hanging bar), lyra (that hanging circle), Spanish web (that rope that spins people), and silks (those hanging fabrics).

More information about each of these apparatus' can be found under their specific class tab. Close-fitting athletic clothing, such as tights or long pants, is recommended for aerial training. Children will be going upside down repeatedly, so fitted tops are most comfortable.

Ground Acrobatics Mini-Workshops

Similar to the aerial acrobatics mini-workshop, this mini-workshop meets once a week for hour long classes, for a five week term. The ground acrobatics mini-workshop includes fundamentals of tumbling, trampoline, and partner balancing. Tumbling circus style is very similar to gymnastics tumbling, with an emphasis on style. Our trampoline is designed for acrobatics, so your children will be performing tricks in no time, and partner balancing will produce children happily and comfortably standing upon one another.

Close fitting athletic clothing is required, and please have your kids bring along a pair of socks.

Both the Aerial Acrobatics and Ground Acrobatics workshops are open to children aged 6-14, and for dedicated students who are able to commit to more than one workshop, there is the option to work towards performing in one of TSNY's shows.

All Day Circus Experience For Kids

Wouldn't it be marvelous if there was an entertaining and safe place that kids could go on those inconvenient school holidays that don't seem to extend to your place of business? We are happy to offer the All Day Circus Experience for Kids, held on common school holidays such as Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day and possibly a few more, based on demand. The Circus Experience is a way to try a variety of the acts we teach all in one go. Children will get the opportunity to attempt flying trapeze, trampoline, lyra, silks, juggling, static trapeze, tumbling and more.

The day begins at 8:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm. Please have your children wear comfortable athletic clothing, and bring socks and a water bottle.

TSNY DC Circus Summer Camp

In the warm summer months when the kids are out of school and parents and caregivers are stuck at work, our summer camps are a great way to keep the kids active and engaged. Our summer camps are one week long, from Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm. During the first part of the week, children get to sample various aerial arts, ground acrobatics, and even flying trapeze. Kids then get the opportunity to choose a skill to focus on and craft acts to show to their friends and family in a Friday afternoon performance.

These summer camps have been a big hit, and sell out quickly. They are available for sign up online starting in March and are appropriate for children aged 7-14. Upon registering, a more detailed confirmation packet will be provided.
